"For a moment Eddard Stark was filled with a terrible sense of foreboding. This was his place, here in the north. He looked at the stone figures all around them, breathed deep in the chill silence of the crypt. He could feel the eyes of the dead. They were all listening, he knew. And winter was coming."

What It's About (Summary from Good Reads): Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister forces are massing beyond the kingdom's protective wall. To the south, the King's powers are failing, and his enemies are emerging from the shadows of the throne. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the frozen land they were born to. Now Lord Eddard Stark is reluctantly summoned to serve as the King's new Hand, an appointment that threatens to sunder not only his family but also the kingdom itself. A heroic fantasy of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and evildoers who come together in a time of grim omens.
Why I Chose to Read It: It's the July book selection for the Geek Girl Book Club! And even if it wasn't, I still would have read it because I freaking love the new HBO series!
Notes About the Book:
- Team Tyrion!!!
- This book made me hungry for lemon cakes, and I don't even particularly like the taste of lemons.
- Loved the bromance between Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly.
- There's a lot of weird sex stuff going on in this book. I feel so bad for Lord Walder Fey's young wife.
- God, I just want to punch that little Joffrey in the face!'
- It surprised me how young the characters in the book are! Robb and Jon are only 14-years-old. And Daenerys is 13 when she is sold as a child bride to Khal Drogo. That kind of weirded me out.
- I want a dire wolf.
- Mmmmm...horse heart and fermented mare's milk.
- So many frustrating moments in this book! (Eddard, I'm looking at you!)
Do I Recommend It? Yes! I could not put this book down! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
