Downton Abbey (2010): I LOVED this Masterpiece Classic series and can't wait for season 2. It's all about the sordid lives of a wealthy British family and the servants who live vicariously through them. I especially loved the dresses that the Crawley women wear. I think they change their outfits every 10 minutes. Is it groundbreaking? No. However, it has wonderful characters that you can't help caring for...or despising (Thomas, you bastard). Oh, and please tell me I'm not the only one who keeps calling it Downtown Abbey! 5 Stars!
Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010): Who doesn't love a good music bio-pic? I had never heard of Ian Dury before, but I adore Andy Serkis, so I decided to check it out. The film didn't make much sense and it dragged in some parts, but Serkis is brilliant as Ian. It made me a fan of his music and I've been listening to Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick non-stop for the past week. The opening credits to this film kick ass, by the way. 3 Stars!
In This Our Life (1942): Another great classic movie starring Bette Davis as the femme fatale directed by John Huston. She plays a young woman named Stanley who run's off and marries her sister Roy's (played by Olivia de Havilland and what is up with the manly names?) husband. Scandal immediately follows. Billie Burke (Glinda from The Wizard of Oz) and Hattie McDaniel (Mammy from Gone with the Wind) also appear as supporting characters. 4 Stars!
